Desktop Article Delivery
Desktop Article Delivery Request Form (GSU faculty only)
Submit a request online for desktop delivery of journal articles or book chapters available in print format in The University Library.
What Is Desktop Article Delivery?
Desktop Article Delivery is a new service offered to GSU faculty.
We provide desktop delivery via GSU email of journal articles and book chapters from the print collection at The Georgia State University Library.
Who Is Eligible To Use Desktop Article Delivery
If you have a Faculty or Professional Administrative status Panthercard and an active library account, then you are eligible for this service. Part-time instructors and graduate teaching assistants are not eligible.
What Can I Request Through Desktop Article Delivery?
- Journal articles and book chapters 30 pages or less in length.
- The materials must be part of the University Library's print collection.
- To request an item not owned by the University Library, please go to http://www.library.gsu.edu/ill/ to submit an Interlibrary Loan request.
What Cannot Be Supplied Through Desktop Article Delivery?
- Articles or chapters that are already available as full-text online and available via E-Journals or E-books.
- Articles from issues/volumes that are not included in the lists of "Volumes Owned" or "Recent Issues" in the GIL record for the journal.
- Articles or chapters from items that are at the bindery or have a lost or missing status in the GIL record for the journal or book.
- Microfilm or microfiche— Unfortunately, we cannot supply desktop delivery of these formats due to the large file size they create.
- ERIC Documents--- These are on microfiche. Many ERIC Documents are available online through ERIC E*Subscribe. For more information, go to http://www.library.gsu.edu/databases/details.asp?productID=306
How Many Articles Can I Request?
A maximum of 5 per day.
How Do I Place a Request?
- Start with a citation for an article (or book chapter) that is not available full-text through E-Journals (or E-Books).
- Search for the journal or book title in GIL, our online catalog.
- From the catalog record for the title, determine if we own the specific volume and issue (or book) in print format.
- If the University Library has the volume and issue (or book) in print (including current, bound, and storage periodicals), go to http://www.library.gsu.edu/artdel/form.asp and complete the request form online.
How Soon Will I Get My Articles?
Within three business days.
How Do I Access My Articles?
- You will need access to your GSU email, the internet, and a recent version of Adobe Acrobat Reader.
- Notification will come to your GSU email account with the subject line "GSU Article Delivery"
- Follow the instructions in the email message to get to the Ariel Document List.
- This is a list of all your available documents that have been posted to the web.
- If you have requested any articles through Interlibrary Loan, they may also appear in this list.
How Long Will My Articles Stay Web-posted?
The system will automatically remove your document after it is viewed five times or after fourteen days have passed since you received your e-mail notification, whichever comes first.
What If I Have Trouble Accessing My Documents?
- If you get the message "you do not have any available documents", there is a problem with the email address and PIN you entered
- Make sure you are using your email address ending in ".gsu.edu"
- Cut and paste your PIN from the notification email into the login box
- If Adobe Acrobat opens, but the document won’t load properly, there is likely a problem with the Acrobat program or that particular document file.
- Unfortunately, Mac computers are not compatible with our software.
- If you still have problems accessing your documents, or any questions regarding Desktop Article Delivery, please contact John Max at (404) 413-2820.
